Is it really that Simple?

This was sent to me today, it was one of those 'send this on and you will receive a miracle,' type things. I don't usually even read these let alone send them on but I happened to read this and thought it was relevant and wanted to post it.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window.

'I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

'Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.'

'That doesn't have anything to do with it,' he replied.

'Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged .. it's how I arrange it in my mind. I already decided to love it. 'It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in my life

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories!
Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank.
I am still depositing.' Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Unfortunately these 5 simple rules hang up a lot of people, including me so my goal today is to pick one of the 5 and make it work for me today.
I will check back later and confess how I did.

Let the Good News roll!

Okay, there seems to be a glut of bad news out there and it is getting a tad bit depressing, so here is my solution. I want good news I mean I want to hear your good news. Surely there is more going on in the world besides an election that offers me no choice (except Sarah Palin), a bailout of very, very greedy banks, or wall street continuing its downward spiral.

Enough already... Give me some good news! I will start. I have started an exercise program where I walk with the DH a mile twice a day. I am actually feeling some really positive side effects from the aforementioned activity, the greatest being a feeling of well-being. I have also started taking my Pro-Argini9 Plus at least twice a day preferably three and my Thyroid seems to be getting whipped into shape. Whoopeee! I have 8 (count them) 8 wonderful, beeutiful grandchildren and 8 (again count them) 8 stupendous kids and kids-in-law. I live in the greatest country on earth. I am married to the man that most women only dream about being married to (love ya honey). I still have my parents around to lead me and guide me (not to mention, walk beside me) and travel with me to Disneyland.

Man, I could go on and on but the purpose of this blog is to hear from you about your good news. It is time to focus on the good, wonderful, positive aspects of our life and I am more then ready. ARE YOU WITH ME? Okay then, LET'S ROLL!

Gratefully There is only one of me

person with my name in the U.S.A.

How many have your name?

Interestingly enough there are 61,050 people in the USA with my first name, and it happens to be the 697th most popular. Who knew. But the thing I like the most is that there is only one person in the whole of the USA with my first and last name and that would be ME! I know it probably says way too much about my self-absorption but that makes me feel special.

Water anyone? The hose is out back

So I found this website that helps you organize your home and then clean it on a daily basis in only 19 minutes a day. I can't even take a shower in 19 minutes a day. I was intrigued, nay facsinated by the very thought. Well, do you know what you can do with the rest of your day if the house only takes you 19 minutes. It is mind boggling I tell you. The very thought leaves me speechless. (Thank goodness the hands can still type) Her first suggestion is to make your sink shine. Now this was a bit of a tickler for me as my sinks are not ceramic or stainless steel as you can see from the photos. They are a composite material that while I find it wonderful and very lifelike, it stops just short of shiny. So I took Olive oil and coated my clean marvel as per the instructions. Anyway I followed the directions and then stood back admiring, I asked my dear husband what he thought of the job, 'Looks great,' he said and then promptly turned on the water to wash his hands. 'Wait, wait,' I cried, 'you can't use it, that would take off the clean almost shiny look.' He looked at me a bit perplexed, shook his head and walked away. I know it is a sacrifice but I think the website is right, we may not be able to have the conveniences of running water in our house but I will never again be embarassed by hard water deposits and a stained sink. Well I have to run, I need to go out back and wash my hands in the hose. Have a sparkly day.

Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Today was not altogether ordinary, there was yet one more fire to put out and hurt feelings to massage, you know the typical stuff. The thing that made today different from every other day was the fact that I actually felt good about the fire extinguishing thing.
Sometimes I do things out of pure habit, sometimes out of guilt and sometimes I actually do things with the intent to fix something so that I can move on. Today was the latter. And can I tell you, it felt good.
I am not saying that I was in the wrong completely or the other party was in the wrong completely, (I think that in most situations there is blame to go around and then some)but it felt good to finalize something that has been nothing but a nagging rock in my shoe. Isn't it funny that we can do something to ease someone else's misery (not to mention our own) but we don't do it. We just continue to limp along trying to adjust the rock in our shoe to different positions thinking it will hurt less somewhere else instead of stopping, taking off the shoe, shaking out the rock, and moving on. I tell ya, as humans sometimes I think we are not quite playing with a full deck. Anyway, it is done, at least this episode is done and I am free to move on to the next fire.

Go Cougars!

Well here we are at the wonderful BYU-Wyoming football game. The weather couldn't have been better, it was slightly overcast with the possiblity of rain and that kept the temperature down. We knew that it would be a good game when after just the first few plays BYU picked up a fumbled lateral pass and ran it back for a touchdown. Whew-hoo that was so on the ball of that little defensive player. I am not very well versed in the sport of football but even I knew that the player that scooped up the ball was very on top of things. The game became particularly exciting when with only 6 minutes left in the first half, the sun went behind the scoreboard in the south endzone (where our seats are) and stayed there until there were only 2 minutes left in the game, talk about good Karma. Oh, and Steve the wonderful went down at half time and came up with some very tasty, if not expensive, hot dogs with relish and katsup or Ketchup, catsup or however you wish to spell it, along with a caffeine free Coke (the only kind they sell at the Y). Food for my tummy, liquid refreshment, shade and what turned out to be a blessed breeze coming from the North, what more could a girl want. Oh, and Steve also rented me one of those hard plastic chairs with a back that hooks to the bleachers so I was also comfortable. (what a guy, as you can see from the picture). Anywho just wanted to share my wonderful Saturday with the Mr. Can't wait for the next time the stars align and I am right in the path of perfection.

PS and for those that are interested, it was a shut-out, BYU 44-Wyoming 0

The power of Football Players

I had a great opportunity last night. It was our privilege to attend the fireside put on by the BYU football players. For those of you that are reading this and already know about the firesides, you know what I am talking about, if you don't I must put in a plug for this. Those on the team that choose to participate put on this fireside that includes talks by the players and coach Mendenhall and his wife. They also have musical numbers that are just wonderful. Any time we have attended it has been standing room only. There is one held the night before any game, even the away games and the crowd is full of youth. Youth are who this is meant to help and affect but anyone that attends will leave with their testimonies strengthened. It is a testimony building, faith enhancing evening. This is a wonderful time and all ages benefit from it. I cannot say enough about this great program, if you have one coming to a town near you please, please do anything you can to get yourselves and your kids to it, you will not be sorry. It will be the best hour of your week.
