Lead Me, Guide Me, Walk Beside Me

Last night I spent the evening in the company of two of the most valiant people I have ever known, My parents. The older I grow the more I become aware that these two people are amazing. My dear sweet Pa Pa bought my darling mom a new Christmas Tree for her birthday. She and I had traveled up to the big city last week to buy ornaments for the new tree, what a fun time I had. Then last night we spent decorating the tree. Mom was thrilled and one of the last things she said to me before I left was, 'this is the first time I have ever had such an elegant tree.' That made me feel so warm and fuzzy.

How wonderful that Heavenly Father sent us such wonderful people to keep us on the straight and narrow, loving us every step or misstep of the way. Sometimes I wonder what I did or do that could make me eligible to call such wonderful people 'my parents.'

I feel the exact same way (about my parents and yours!). But, this begs the question, what happened to the old ornaments? She must have had some? Did she give them all away? Was she going to spend the rest of her life treeless and then reconsidered?

Me too. Reading this reminded me of how nice your parents have been to me. (Not that I needed a reminder cause I think about it a lot.) My Dad and I stayed the night at their house before I went in to the MTC. They met me at the airport (before strict security) on my way from the MTC to Georgia and gave me treats for the flight. When I came home I had a layover in SLC before going on to CA and they surprised me at the airport again! I had just watched my missionary friends greeting their families and I was moving on to the gate for my connecting flight all alone, still waiting to see my family. And then there they were!! It was so sweet of them to be there and wait with me.

So, Christine, if I get my parents to meet you at the airport on some trip, that means you will comment on my blog (bwwaahahaaaa!)

Oh my dear cousins, how I do appreciate your kind words and thoughts about my dear parents. Heidi the old ornaments are 'who knows where' and yes, since moms diagnoses of Parkinsons she hasn't really had the energy or desire to have a tree, let alone decorating it. I am thrilled to be able to help even a little bit when she felt the desire to once again have a tree and decorations.
Christine that sounds just like my folks. They have always been so happy to have their dear family in their neck of the woods and have always opened their home to everyone.

Oh, Roxanne, I didn't know your mom has parkinsons! My dad is an aqaurius--he doesn't really communicate very well and my mom forgets everything! Oh, shoot!

Isn't it funny that when we are teenagers we think our parents know nothing, and as we grow older we realize how much we should have/can still learn from them?

Your parents are great people. You are blessed.

Beautifully said my dear sister...we are very blessed and the written word is just a sweet reminder of the how lucky we are to have great parents.... Mom and Dad's efforts in welcoming family to Utah helped us get to know many of our relatives. This has enriched all our lives!
